Berber keyboard drivers

For North and West Africa, and France (AZERTY):

Everyday keyboard

If you type most often in French, or you prefer to keep all the numbers and symbols in the same places as on the French AZERTY keyboard, this keyboard driver simply extends the French layout with additional functions.

The "Tamazight (Agraghlan)"/"Français+" keyboard is for everyday use. It provides the Latin letters for typing Berber language variants (including Tuareg). Tifinagh letters can also accessed, but less easily (by deadkey).

If you prefer a name that ensures users will not notice any difference, so avoids confusion, for example for an Internet cafe:

Specialist keyboards

If you want to be able to type different varieties of Berber in Latin script and Tifinagh script with equal ease, without switching keyboard drivers, use one of the following Berber-centric layouts. The first defaults to Latin script and Caps Lock switches it to Tifinagh; the second defaults to Tifinagh and Caps Lock switches it to Latin script.

AZERTY LATIN/Tifinagh - version 1.36, 14/09/2011

AZERTY TIFINAGH/Latin - version 1.36, 13/09/2011 (An international adaptation of IRCAM's Tifinagh keyboard, Morocco)

(See layout diagrams and download the Windows keyboard driver installers - tested on XP, Vista, Windows 7 and 8 - and documentation.)

Standardised keyboards for Berber

These layouts are optimised for Berber, although French can still be typed intuitively and reasonably rapidly on the Latin script layout. ISO-9995 adaptations will be candidate standards for Berber locales. Linux implementations are under development.

AZERTY, Latin - version 1.36 17/09/2011

AZERTY, Tifinagh - version 1.36 18/09/2011

(See layout diagrams and download the Windows keyboard driver installers - tested on XP, Vista, Windows 7 and 8 - and documentation.)
